Artist Insider: Throwing a Vase
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to try making a two-toned single-flower vase. First I used a chuck of Santiam Clay and centered it on the wheel. I then pulled the clay into the shape of a single-flower vase. Next I created a dripping effect using potters ink black slip. When glazing the vase, I used a Zinc free clear glaze. I proceeded to apply the glaze using a small paint brush, only glazing the spots that did not have black slip on it. This left the dripping effect with a matte finish and the rest glossy.
